Affiliate Marketing for Beginners Step by Step Guide 2022

affiliate marketing for beginners step by step

Affiliate marketing is the act of advertising and selling other people’s products in return for a cut of the profit from the sale. In addition to serving as an excellent source of passive income, affiliate marketing also allows you to work from home, set your own hours, and pursue your passions without feeling like you are trapped in a 9-to-5 job! If you have been thinking about getting started with affiliate marketing but aren’t sure where to begin, Affiliate Marketing for Beginners Step by Step Guide will put you through.

But let’s face it, when it comes to how much you can make with affiliate marketing, this solely depends on how much work you put in it because affiliate marketing itself takes some kind of grinding.

Choose your Niche (Affiliate Marketing for Beginners Step by Step)

The first step to getting a grip on your income is to decide what niche you want to work within. The best way is by identifying your interests, strengths, and weaknesses. If you’re a blogger, for example, then maybe you want to focus on travel or fashion as your subject matter. If you’re good at graphic design, perhaps an online shop might be of interest? Think about all of these things before choosing your preferred niche because they’ll inform all future decisions.

Research and Decide on your Business Model

When deciding on your business model, you need to consider two questions: What do I want? and Who will pay for it?. If you are unsure of how to choose your product or service, read up on what makes a good choice in What Products Should You Sell Online and How To Pick A Profitable Niche For Your New eCommerce Store.

Once you have considered all these factors, you should then decide whether your venture will be an online-only or offline-based business (if it is offline-based). If you decide on an online business, then it would be wise to plan a strong social media strategy that can bring interest and customer inquiries through social media websites like Facebook and Twitter.

Create your Website

If you’re going to attract advertisers, you need a website. And if you’re going to sell your own products and services online, you need a platform that can help you do that. While there are many platforms available today (Shopify is one of my favorites) I recommend using WordPress. It is free, easy-to-use, and has so many options for customization as far as widgets and plugins go. Plus, it supports some really incredible themes – all of which are fully customizable by YOU!

Do Keyword Research

Keyword research is fundamental to any online business, whether it’s for a new website or an established one. Keywords are what people type into search engines like Google when they’re looking for information on a particular topic. If you want your content to rank well in search engines, you need a solid keyword foundation.

Start by coming up with words and phrases that accurately describe your business and/or products. Then work backward from there: Use tools like Google Trends and Keyword Tool (both free) to see which keywords have search volume over time, as well as how much competition those keywords have. There are even paid tools like SpyFu ($99 per month) that can give you detailed data about a given term or competitor.

From there, consider how many pages of content would be required to effectively target each keyword—one page per topic? Two? More? Also, think about who might use certain keywords; while generic terms will net traffic no matter who types them into Google, highly specific ones may be used only by small segments of people. In short: Know thy audience. The more specific your website’s focus is—and the more topics it covers—the easier it’ll be for users to find exactly what they’re looking for in their searches; thus making sure that said searches lead directly back to your site.

Create content

Once you have an idea for a topic, brainstorm related keywords and phrases. Use these keywords and phrases when creating your content. Optimize it for search engines by using SEO best practices. Creating compelling, engaging content will keep people coming back and help your site rank on search engines like Google.

Make sure to include lots of links in your content so that other websites can link back to yours. The more sites that link to yours, the higher ranked you’ll be on search engines for those keywords and phrases.

Here are some places where we recommend getting ideas for what kind of topics to write about: List posts. These articles take various lists from around Webs, such as Top 20 Dogs or The Best Popcorn Flavors, and make them unique by adding original commentary or research about each item on the list.

Target Traffic through Social Media

Let’s face it, if you aren’t using social media marketing as part of your SEO strategy, you are really missing out on a great opportunity to get people talking about your site and seeing what you have to offer. I would recommend blogging as an excellent way to develop brand awareness. Start by following influencers in your niche, comment on their blogs, and reach out when possible. Join forums relevant to your business and be active on them; remember that becoming an expert in a subject will always lead others looking for information on that topic right back at you.

You can also use social media as a great way to encourage people on your website and actually build relationships that will lead them back again and again. This is an extremely effective strategy for growing a business because you are making it easier for others to spread your brand. Make sure you share your content across all of your social channels, no matter how many you have! Doing so will give you more exposure and encourage others to do so as well. Social media is definitely one of my favorite things when it comes down to promoting a business because of its ease, convenience, and growth potential.

Run ads on Social Media

Start by identifying your ideal audience. Once you know who they are, it’s time to create a Facebook Ad or other relevant ads. Don’t be afraid of failure and don’t stress if you have nothing to put on your landing page; these will come when they come. For now, just learn how social media advertising works and start testing so that when an opportunity presents itself, you are ready! Step 8 – Start asking for referrals: It doesn’t matter how far along you are in your business—from Day 1 to ten years later—referrals should always be part of your business strategy.

If something is working, keep doing it! And don’t wait until people approach you either. Ask everyone you do business with directly or indirectly (again: suppliers). Send them a personal email asking them to spread the word about what you do/sell through their own networks—and then follow up regularly by thanking them for their help while letting them know what new offerings/events/newsletters have come out since their initial contact with you. The more people who are talking about you regularly, the better!

Build Relationships with Influencers in your Niche.

Connecting with influencers will give you access to information that can help you succeed. Building relationships is another way of setting yourself up for success because it opens doors and opportunities. As an example, when you’re working on finding affiliates, reach out and offer your knowledge as a consultant/expert. Offer them something of value for free so they can try your product and service. This also works great for social media engagement, guest posts, etc… Think about it from their perspective: You are offering genuine value without having anything invested or asking for anything in return (just keep them updated if they sign up). That’s awesome!

Build a Mailing List for Affiliate Marketing

Building a mailing list of subscribers is not only free, but it’s one of your best ways to generate sales leads and stay top-of-mind with potential customers. In most cases, you can collect customer email addresses and send promotional messages at a later date (your first message should be an offer for something free—like a helpful report or guide).

Building a mailing list can also help you refine your market, as you’ll discover which niches have high opt-in rates. While building a large email list is great for promoting new products, that shouldn’t be your focus when starting out. Rather than approaching them to buy products, think about using these folks as affiliates and promoting their products instead.

This builds both trust and goodwill while giving you access to people who know your business better than anyone else. You might even give away a few copies of some of your premium content just to keep things interesting. Step 9 – Build a mailing list: Building a mailing list of subscribers is not only free, but it’s one of your best ways to generate sales leads and stay top-of-mind with potential customers. In most cases, you can collect customer email addresses and send promotional messages at a later date (your first message should be an offer for something free—like a helpful report or guide). Building a mailing list can also help you refine your market, as you’ll discover which niches have high opt-in rates.

Automate everything!

In an ideal world, you’d have a dedicated team helping your run your campaigns for you. In reality, though, that’s probably not going to happen any time soon, so if you want to be successful at affiliate marketing (and make a full-time income from it), it’s vital that you learn how to automate things – and fast. Automation makes everything faster and easier.

You can schedule emails, delegate social media profiles and landing pages, repurpose content—all these actions mean less time doing repetitive tasks that don’t bring in money. You could even hire someone else like Fiverr (and many others) to do grunt work for as little as $5 per hour! Your goal is to leave tedious tasks for robots, leaving yourself open to focus on what really matters: making sales. Consider building your own automation tools with services such as Zapier or IFTTT.

They’re free to use, but they might end up saving you hundreds of hours over just a few months alone. And hey—even if building software doesn’t interest you, learning how things are automated will give you insight into exactly why they need to be automated in the first place! Think about it: How would two high school students ever keep up with all of their chores around their parent’s house?
